But I think my first love is acoustic music. – Graham Nash
My favorite ( mostly mellow) acoustic songs:
1. James Taylor – Sweet Baby James (Fire & Rain, You’ve Got a Friend, Copperline, etc.)
2. Glen Hansard – Falling Softly
3. Patti Griffin – Long Ride Home
4. Emmylou Harris – Red Dirt Girl
5. Joni Mitchell – Carey (with mandolin, too)
6. Bob Dylan – Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright
7. Harry Chapin – Cats in the Cradle
8. Glen Campbell – Wichita Lineman
9. Ricky Martin – Tu Recuerdo (with guitar and mandolin)
10. Simon and Garfunkel – Sound of Silence

I have to say, though I’ve been in and out reading your blog, I had not run across this post before. I really like the songs :) I was listening to them while working. I really like the Emmylou Harris one, hadn’t listened to anything she wrote before. Acoustic music always brings me joy–both making it and listening!

Was just re-listening to Blue a few days ago so finding this post is a coincidence! Pretty much anything Joni Mitchell does is amazing. :-) I’ve heard Sweet Baby James played live a few times by the man himself…Nice selection!

Thanks so much for your comment! I love Joni Mitchell and share the Canadian sensibility that I hear in “Blue’s” lyrics and tone. I heard James Taylor play Sweet Baby James only once – but it was magical! Warmly, Joan

Most, if not all are (country) orientated! Im sorry, but i found this post searching for some new Acoustic music to consider learning myself. All i keep finding is “what i’d describe as” country. Its frustrating! The is alot of other beautiful music out there besides country. I know that its a huge part of American culture but over here in england its not so popular.

Thanks so much for your comment and international perspective! I will create another acoustic version that is not so American country-oriented. Best wishes! Joan

yeah, that sounds good. Ill keep an eye out for another post. If its okay, i would like to make a suggestion. For you, or anyone that reads these comments. I recommend listening to “Explosions in the sky”. They are an American post rock instrumental band. Not the most popular genre, i know! But honestly, their music is truely beautiful. If you ever need to wind down or just chill. They probably have a song that could help you with that.
