When true Love burns Desire is Love’s pure flame;
It is the reflex of our earthly frame,
That takes its meaning from the nobler part,
And but translates the language of the heart.
from Desire by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

You have shown me the purest form of love.

They took each other by the hand,
And danced a stately saraband;
Their laughter echoed thin and shrill.

Sometimes a clockwork puppet pressed
A phantom lover to her breast,
Sometimes they seemed to try to sing.

from The Harlot’s House by Oscar Wilde

Where did that lustful lover go?

Come, O come, my life’s delight,
Let me not in languor pine!
Love loves no delay; thy sight,
The more enjoyed, the more divine:
O come, and take from me
The pain of being deprived of thee!
from My Life’s Delight by Thomas Campion

I love being the object of your affection.

Longing is like the Seed
That wrestles in the Ground,
Believing if it intercede
It shall at length be found.

Little did I know how long it would take some seeds to emerge.

When we get out of the glass bottles of our ego,
and when we escape like squirrels turning in the
cages of our personality
and get into the forests again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don’t know ourselves.

Cool, unlying life will rush in,
and passion will make our bodies taut with power,
we shall stamp our feet with new power
and old things will fall down,
we shall laugh, and institutions will curl up like
burnt paper.
D.H. Lawrence

I am yearning to feel that rush of untamed love again…

Maybe?

Always again?

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was broken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?”
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!”-
Merely this, and nothing more.
from The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe

The simplicity of first love, or friendliness, the mutuality of first sympathy seems, at its initial appearance – even if merely in exciting conversation across a dinner table – to be a self-enclosed world.

Today a frock the color of a rose had been put on her, and Mariette had bought some real buds and made her a wreath to wear on her black locks. She had been learning a new, delightful dance in which she had been skimming and flying about the room, like a large rose-colored butterfly, and the enjoyment and exercise had brought a brilliant, happy glow in to her face. – from A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett

I, too, have been learning to waltz in my rose-colored frock.
