Helen, thy beauty is to me
Like those Nicean barks of yore,
That gently, o’er a perfumed sea,
The weary, way-worn wanderer bore
To his own native shore.
To Helen by Edgar Allan Poe

I wish I could savor the first blush of young love over and over again.

Fraenkel loved my home, the idea of a house, a home as a pivot, a base, a hub. Henry, the vagabond, was amazed at Fraenkel’s assertion that this was necessary to creation, that rolling and drifting prevented growth, that this was the way to grow and expand. – from the Diary of Anaïs Nin

The muse visits me when I am curled up reading in my favorite wingback chair.

If you only knew how much I love you, how essential you are to my life, you would not dare to stay away for an instant, you would always remain by my side, your heart pressed close to my heart, your soul to my soul.

Stops at the light
Of this pale choked day. The peering sun

The decision to kiss for the first time is the most crucial in any love story. It changes the relationship of two people much more strongly than even the final surrender; because this kiss already has within it that surrender.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
from Dreams by Langston Hughes

Keep true to your dreams – dreaming the dream can be just as important (and delicious) as realizing the dream.

i like my body when it is with your

Just as he has chosen the color of his tie to give her pleasure, so did she choose her perfume, every part of her toilette, her finest lingerie, although she knows that for the time being he will but surmise. For when all senses surge and pursue one another, she knows the sorcery of the unseen. –  Emil Ludwig

I can’t you let go…

I live here on my knees
As I try to make you see
That you’re everything I think I need
Here on the ground
But you’re neither friend or foe
Though I can’t seem to let you go
One thing I still know
Is that you are keeping me down

From the song Gravity by Sara Braeilles

Why can’t you let me soar?

Is getting what you need romantic?

You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you might find
You get what you need
Rolling Stones

We are just over a month away from Valentine’s Day. This year instead of being disappointed by all the romantic marks my Valentine does not hit on the Big Day, I am going to think about all the little things he does to demonstrate his love for me all year long. Things like changing a flat tire, lighting the pilot light on the wall heater of my new home, crawling under the foundation to check the plumbing, climbing up on the roof to fix the chimney flue, teaching me the finer points of power tools, driving me to visit my ailing parents a thousand miles away, and going along with my foreign film choices count for a lot. Maybe giving me what I need instead of what I want is the most romantic gift of all.
