They dined on mince and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon,
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon.
Edward Lear from The Owl and the Pussycat

A romantic Sunday morning stroll along the beach was cut short by an exciting airborne interloper…

…we progress from being voyeurs, which we always are when we look at other people’s pictures, to excavators, combining our memories for what we may recognize from our own family albums, from our own lives. We look for us. – Michael Kimmelman

This lifeguard chair on Vancouver’s North Shore evokes very strong memories of my summers as a pool lifeguard.

Sometimes the rare, the beautiful, can only emerge or survive in isolation. In a similar manner, some degree of withdrawal serves to nurture man’s creative powers. The artist and the scientist bring out of the dark void, like the mysterious universe itself, the unique, the strange, the unexpected. – Loren Eiseley from The Night Country

When I shifted my focus from the water to the shore, I beheld many acts of creation.

I know well that happiness is in little things… – John Ruskin

I stayed up late finishing another throw – and really enjoyed designing the generous fringe! The inspiration for the colors came from Nirvana’s Come As You Are performance video – Rome 1991 (the green spotlight on Kurt Cobain’s hair, especially).

Yarn spun in this luxurious way turns a simple knitting project into high art!

I just finished knitting this very textured wool throw and love the result! The King of Rock and Roll’s Blue Suede Shoes kept me on task.

All you need to paint is a few tools, a little instruction, and a vision in your mind. – Bob Ross

I am fascinated by the beautiful shapes and colors in this section of a strand of beads from West Africa.

No matter how artful the photographer, no matter how carefully posed his subject, the beholder feels an irresistible urge to search such a picture for a tiny spark of contingency… – Walter Benjamin

And what is my true nature?… Is mine idealism, spirituality, poetry, imagination, sense of beauty, a need of beauty, a fundamental Rimbaud innocence, a certain purity? I need to create. – Anaïs Nin

I love the sensual biomorphic lines of the vessels in the foreground.

Every jogger can’t dream of being an Olympic champion, but he can dream of finishing a marathon. – Fred Lebow

I spotted several San Francisco marathoners strolling around The Mission District after the race today sporting their well-deserved medals.
