I know well that happiness is in little things… – John Ruskin

I stayed up late finishing another throw – and really enjoyed designing the generous fringe! The inspiration for the colors came from Nirvana’s Come As You Are performance video – Rome 1991 (the green spotlight on Kurt Cobain’s hair, especially).

Yarn spun in this luxurious way turns a simple knitting project into high art!

I just finished knitting this very textured wool throw and love the result! The King of Rock and Roll’s Blue Suede Shoes kept me on task.

It is a peculiarity of knitters that they chronically underestimate the amount of time it takes to knit something. – Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

Although I am not planning to give up my present love (Rowan yarn), I have to confess that I am smitten with two others: Ozark Handspun and Be Sweet yarns. I plan to use all three when making Christmas gifts this year for my daughters.

British royalty fans will want to check out the July 20th posting of the Be Sweet Blog and the instructions for the shawl that Kate Middleton wore recently.

Knitting mends the soul.

I could not resist making a throw from this beautifully dyed, thick-and-thin yarn! Draping it over a hanger, I was able to capture the soft neon-like color palette in the late afternoon sunlight.

Toque or tuque def: a woman’s small hat without a brim made in any of various soft-fitting shapes.

I watched Love Story again last night after many years.  I was still enchanted by the scene in which Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal frolick in the snow in Harvard Yard –  making angels, slipping and falling, and kissing (she even licked the snow off his check).  I developed a penchant for wool toques after that movie – forever associating them with the beautiful, but tragic, Jennifer Cavalleri character. Shortly thereafter, I learned how to knit and crochet the hats using rich variegated yarns in blue, purple, and red.

The French mohair toques are my favorite and I have collected several over the years from my trips to Vancouver. They are so beautifully crafted that I consider them wearable art.

Model – Lauren DiMarco
